Digital Nomads Take to the Sea in Selene Trawlers

Why wait for retirement to live the life you’ve always dreamed of? More and more boat-lovers are proving that work and play can go hand-in-hand on a trawler.

Digital Nomads Take to the Sea in Selene Trawlers

In 2024, an MBO survey estimated that there were approximately 18.1 million ‘digital nomads’, which are defined as, “people who travel freely while working remotely using information and communications technology such as the Internet.” Unsurprisingly, this is a segment of workers that has roughly doubled since pre-Covid times.

Prioritizing adventure, experience, and living in the ‘now’, it’s no surprise that digital nomads have found their way to ocean-going trawlers. Here are just a few examples of people who have managed to merge adventure and paying the bills aboard a Selene:

Corey & Tracy aboard ‘Leizu’

Corey previously worked for the Coast Guard before transitioning into the IT sector. His remote role allows him to work full-time from their Selene 53, using technology like Starlink. In his words, there’s nothing he can do in an office that he can’t accomplish from aboard Leizu. This flexibility has made cruising a reality. Nathan & Lindsey aboard Ruth Pearl II

Known in the boating community as ‘The 71 Percent’ (as the earth is 71% covered in water), Nathan and Lindsey not only manage to work aboard a Selene 49 Classic Explorer, they’ve turned their passion for adventure into a new career as YouTube content producers.

Thanks to Starlink, The 71 Percent are able to work seamlessly with overseas editors and post videos during their 10,000+ mile crossing of the Pacific Ocean. Be sure to subscribe to their inspiring channel and follow their nomadic lifestyle and adventures.

Cindy & Steve aboard Kallisto

As one of our colleagues at Selene Americas, Cindy Covington expertly manages both our social media strategy and our event planning. And she does this all from aboard the gorgeous Selene 53, Kallisto.

Like her husband Steve, Cindy makes use of Starlink to take daily calls and stay in touch with the team. In fact, if it wasn’t for the gorgeous background of The Bahamas during video calls, we’d probably assume she was back home in Maryland. Here’s a video of some of Kallisto’s recent adventures.
