Selene Captain Mark Tilden Talks Tidal Rapids
Now on his second Selene trawler, community legend Mark Tilden has spent over two decades exploring the Pacific Northwest and beyond. When we last caught up with Mark at the West Coast Selene Owner’s Rendezvous, he was excited to discuss one of the unique challenges of navigating the Pacific Northwest and Alaska - tides and tidal Rapids.

In the video below, Mark shares the risks and rewards of navigating the tidal rapids of British Columbia and Southeast Alaska. As a regular explorer of the large tide swings and rapid currents of the famous 'Inner Passage' in his Selene 60 Classic Explorer, Mark shares how he uses tools like TimeZero to identify slack tides and safely navigate what could otherwise be treacherous waters.
Mark also touches on how many of these narrows are well worth navigating, as they hide some of the world's most beautiful scenery (Prince Louisa Sound being a prime example). Subscribe to our YouTube channel for easy access to more trawler advice and adventures.
